Metropolis of Staples

Covering 193 square feet built by Peter Root, the project took a total of 40 hours and 10,000 staples!

He makes installations using large quantities of objects such as staples.  I really like how the buildings are built up very densely in areas and they gradually descend to ground level, I think the repetition of the same material is very effective and I like the fragility of the balanced stacks of staples contrasted with the powerful image they create.
“Miniature environments can be created anywhere from anything and can function as a space allowing you to become fully immersed in.  I like making things that are intricate and time-consuming”.  I feel quite inspired by this work as I also like to get lost in detail myself.  I like looking at work that has taken a long time because I admire the patience of the maker and I like to imagine them creating the piece.
